The decomposed body of a woman in her mid-thirties was found inside the bed box of a DDA flat in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area, police said on Friday. A day later, two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case.

According to police, neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the house in Satyam Enclave. Police then reached the spot and found the house was locked from the outside. But there were traces of blood near the back door. Upon entry, officers found the decomposed body of a woman in a bag, wrapped in a blanket, and stored inside a bed storage compartment.

The owner of the house was identified as a 65-year-old English tutor. Police tracked him near Surajmal Park in Anand Vihar and apprehended him in the late hours of Friday night.

“During questioning, he admitted to the crime and said two other men were involved — one of them was the victim’s husband. He said the deceased lived in Ludhiana but was originally from Bihar,” said DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.

As police were questioning the flat owner, his co-accused, who had traveled to Delhi by flight to help dispose of the body, learned about his accomplice’s arrest and attempted to flee to Bihar by train, said police.

Police, using technical analysis, pinpointed his location aboard the Magadh Express. Coordinating with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Aligarh, officers managed to intercept and apprehend him at Aligarh Railway Station.

Investigations revealed that the murder was premeditated.

On March 21, the co-accused forcibly brought the woman from Ludhiana to Delhi, said police. “Call Detail Record analysis of their phones revealed they had conspired to murder her… The flat owner had been looking up methods of disposing of a dead body using chemicals online. Additionally, he had also searched for open manholes of the Delhi Jal Board and open drains near his residence,” said DCP Gautam.

“These findings strongly indicate the accused’s criminal intent and premeditated planning regarding the disposal of the victim’s body,” added the DCP.

Police, however, are yet to establish a motive for the crime. They are still on the lookout for the victim’s husband.
