A set of five Indian artefacts from the National Museum in Delhi are all set to be displayed at a museum in the United States next month as part of a special exhibition on Deccan kings.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is reportedly organising a three-month long exhibition titled “Kings of Deccan: Opulence and Fantasy”. It will be curated by Islamic galleries curator Navina Haidar, officials said.
According to officials at the National Museum, the exhibition has been conceptualised on various art objects from various collaborators, one of which is India.

“National Museum is sending three manuscripts, a copper utensil covered with a lid from the ‘Decorative Arts’ gallery and a piece of Kalamkari textile. All pieces date back to the Deccan period (15th to 17th century) and will be on display in the US from mid-April till mid-July. Around six other objects from various other collections in India are also being sent for the exhibition,” Deputy Curator (Exhibition Cell), R K Verma told Newsline.
Sources said a collection of 101 paintings of the Ramayana is also going to be displayed in Australia in May. National Museum’s Curator (Paintings) Vijay Mathur told Newsline that the “masterpieces” were displayed in Belgium over two years ago and, after their “spectacular success”, they will now be showcased at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.
“There are Ramayana paintings from various schools, including the Mughal, Rajasthani, Pahari, Orchha and others. The Malwa Ramayana from Central India is the oldest and the most important… We have selected the masterpieces to be sent abroad,” Mathur said.
Sources also said a rare copy of Baburnama from The State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow, will be on display in the National Museum in December.
