The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is planning to build an entertainment park on the lines of Disneyland. Not only this, a financial hub and a premier healthcare organisation too are on the cards.
Sources said the plan was to construct a park, if not as big as Disneyland, but “big enough to match international standards”. Officials said although the city has had an amusement park in Appu Ghar, given the “size of the city and the profile of the population”, it was time to think of an entertainment park which would be along the lines of Disneyland.
Reportedly, the DDA is considering the ‘Build, Operate and Transfer’ model, in which the authority will retain the land and the operator will set up the facility and pay a certain share of the revenue to the DDA.

Officials said under this model, to begin with, the revenue may not be as much in the initial years, but may gradually increase later. “We need a consultant who will be able to guide us on working out a proper model to give out commercial land on lease,” a senior DDA official said.
On building a financial hub, the authority was considering talking to banks to lend capital to both Indian companies as well as other companies in the region. “The DDA is already in talks with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce to gauge their interest. But we will have to construct a sufficiently large campus for the purpose along international standards,” the official said.
The authority was also considering taking the Reserve Bank of India on board before starting the project, the official said. The authority was also considering constructing a premier healthcare organisation on the lines of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital, MD Anderson Hospital.
Sources said the institute may be an autonomous body. For this, the authority is considering constructing the institute on a Public- Private Partnership basis.
“We can’t get internationally reputed operators to set up such projects if we auction land since land is so expensive. We need consultants who can advise us on an appropriate financial model,” the official said.
