Dance Mentor Murder – Her love for dance landed her in trouble: Mother of the accused

Blaming the crime on their daughter’s fondness for dance, they said, “She started three dance academies with her friend, but all of them failed. She had spent a lot of money on them”.

Initially, they were reluctant to give her money for the dance academies, but gave in when she kept on asking for Rs 8,000.

When they refused to give her any more money, the girl resorted to stealing, they said. “She started to steal money from us. She even sold mobile phones,” said her mother.

“She was good in her studies but still chose to pursue dancing. She lied to us and told us that she will take up a fashion designing course. But when we gave her the money for the course, she used it for her dance institute. After that, we lost all faith in her,” they said.
This led their daughter to take an extreme step; she tried to commit suicide when they refused to give her Rs 500, they said.

“We felt helpless about it; we thought it was a phase and it would pass,” said her mother.

The family of the co-accused, a 17-year-old boy, refused to speak to the media.
