Unhappy with the probe in the Mohammed Akhlaq murder case, residents of Bisara village in Dadri locked down the Maharana Pratap Inter College Tuesday. Police have registered an FIR with regard to the lockdown.
“Some disgruntled residents protested against the manner in which 18 men from the village were arrested in the Akhlaq case,” said Sanjay Rana, Bisara village pradhan. “They locked down the college,” he added.
The college is situated just 500 metres from the spot where Akhlaq (50) was dragged out from his home and beaten to death last October, over allegations that he consumed beef.

Incidentally, residents of the village have formed a “sangharsh samiti” demanding a CBI inquiry into the case while alleging that investigation in the case has been “biased”.
On Sunday, members of the “samiti” had announced that a mahapanchayat will be held on April 10 at Maharana Pratap Inter College to discuss the issue.
“Around 50 other villages will be part of the Mahapanchayat,” said Rana. “We want the administration to make it clear whether the meat recovered (from Akhlaq’s house) was beef or mutton.”
Meanwhile, police registered a case against the protesters Tuesday under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. “As of now, the case has been registered against unknown persons,” said Ravinder Rathi, Station House Officer, Jharcha police station.
“We have obtained photographs of the incident on Tuesday and will use it to identify those who were involved,” he added.
