Daddy’s girl

“It’s rather hot,” complains the model as she goes on to talk about her visit. In Bihar for a few days,Sinha confesses that politics isn’t exactly her cup of tea. “I lack interest in politics and so I keep my distance from it. But right now my mom,brother and I are here to help dad. I’ll be in Patna for a few days; we’ll be visiting a few temples and gurudwaras around our native home.”

When Sinha first walked the ramp last year during Lakme Fashion Week,she managed to raise quite a few eyebrows — the daughter of a party leader from the saffron brigade,the fashion circuit was taken aback. But it was put down to Shatrughan’s long association with the film industry. These days,the veteran actor is often spotted at fashion dos with wife Poonam when their daughter is walking the ramp.

The 23-year-old admits that her father has been supportive but also clarifies that she’d “never do anything he wouldn’t approve of”. “Dad has always given us the freedom to make our choices. He was supportive when I did my fashion designing course from SNDT College and later my decision to model. But our upbringing is such that I won’t ever go against family traditions to wear very skimpy outfits that would embarrass him,” she adds.

The natural progression for Sinha,as with all other star kids,is an acting career in Bollywood,but Sonakshi insists it’s not what she ever meant to do. Her father has always kept them away from the world of films and politics as he’s “never brought work back home” and they hardly ever crossed paths with other stars or their kids.

But after the last Lakme Fashion Week,where Sinha walked the runway for Pria Kataria Puri,the grapevine was abuzz with talk of Arbaaz Khan signing Sonakshi opposite Salman Khan in a film under his production house. Though Arbaaz has been announcing the same to the world,Sinha insists that their talks so far are just in nascent stages.

“I haven’t even read the script yet and neither has dad who’ll take the final call on my debut movie,” she says.
