Delhi on Wednesday reported 509 fresh Covid cases and a positivity rate of 26.54 per cent, a big jump from Tuesday when it stood at 15.64 per cent, according to the Delhi government’s health bulletin.
On Wednesday 1,918 tests were conducted and zero fatalities were reported.
According to experts, the high positivity rate is because of low testing numbers. The positivity rate is considered a mark of how fast the disease is spreading through the community.
According to officials from the state health department, they have been following the Covid norms and are observing the increase in cases.
However, only comorbid and high-risk patients are requiring hospitalisation so far, officials said.
“We have been conducting mock drills and are closely watching the situation. We are following the central government’s directions related to Covid,” the official said.
There is no alarming situation, so testing won’t be increased, said the official. “So far, increased testing has not been considered,” he further said.
Meanwhile, the number of patients in home isolation has increased to 1,174 since last Sunday when 879 patients were in home isolation. A total of 112 patients were hospitalised on Wednesday, out of which 47 were in ICU.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi Wednesday said all civic-run hospitals are also “fully prepared” to deal with the Covid situation and appealed to people not to panic.
“This morning I visited the MCD-run Hindu Rao Hospital and took stock of arrangements there, including Covid beds, availability of oxygen, testing facility and stock of medicine. Later, a meeting was also conducted with doctors and other officials from the hospital administration department of the MCD on the Covid situation,” she added.
