Court seeks Delhi govts response on Utsav Bhasin bail plea
The Supreme Court sought a response from the Delhi government on Tuesday on the bail plea of Utsav Bhasin,the son of a Haryana industrialist accused of mowing down a man with his BMW in South Delhi in September last year.

The Supreme Court sought a response from the Delhi government on Tuesday on the bail plea of Utsav Bhasin,the son of a Haryana industrialist accused of mowing down a man with his BMW in South Delhi in September last year.
After senior advocate Arun Jaitley,appearing for Bhasin,urged the court to take a lenient view since the accused has been in jail for four months,the court issued a notice to the Delhi government,seeking to know their response. A bench of justices S B Sinha and Mukundakam Sharma granted two weeks time to the government to file a response.
Bhasin has filed an appeal challenging the decision of the Delhi High Court,where his bail plea was refused. The authorities had invoked the stringent Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC,which prescribes life imprisonment as maximum sentence,as the surviving victim,Mrigank Singh,alleged that after knocking them down the BMW dragged them for several yards before coming to a halt.
The accused in his appeal quoted the Central Forensic Science Laboratory as claiming that there was no truth in the allegation that his car dragged the victims before coming to a halt. It also pointed out that Bhasin called the PCR and did not run away.
