Court dismisses bail plea of cop held for extortion

A city court on Monday dismissed the bail application of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Rishi Pal Singh.

A city court on Monday dismissed the bail application of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Rishi Pal Singh,who was booked under charges of extortion,dacoity,dishonestly receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.

The ASI was arrested on the complaint of a city-based businessman who claimed that on March 21,he was robbed of 5 kg silver and Rs 2 lakh by a police officer and three others while he was heading to Agra.

After an investigation,the police arrested three suspects who confessed that the robbery was carried out in collusion with three others,including ASI Singh and a police informer.

The property stolen from the businessman was allegedly

distributed between the accused and sold.

The ASI was arrested on April 1. According to police sources,Rs 20,000 has been recovered from the ASI and call records show that the ASI was in touch with the other accused in the case.

The assistant sub-inspector and other accused refused to

participate in the test identification parade.

The ASI has been in custody since April. In his plea,the ASI had requested that he be granted bail since he had cooperated in the investigation and was not a flight risk.

The application was dismissed since he and his lawyer were not present in the court.
