On Sunday morning at about 11.30, locals and passersby panicked on hearing gunshots and a woman’s screams from a local park in Dwarka Sector 4. They rushed to the spot and found the woman lying in a pool of blood and a man, wearing a police uniform, sitting on a bench next to her. “Such incidents have never happened before in our locality. I was standing in my balcony when I heard the noise. I initially thought someone had burst crackers. Then I heard a woman’s voice crying for help,” said Saurabh Dwivedi, a resident. Dwivedi said as he rushed out his building, he heard two more gun shots. When he reached the park, he found a crowd outside. “Some of us decided to go and find out what happened. When we reached the spot, we saw the shooter reloading his revolver. We got scared and did not approach the man. We started to shoot a video while a resident called the police,” he said. Residents alleged that police could have saved the life of both victims if they had reached the spot on time. Instead, police arrived only 30 minutes later, said residents. “We called the police at 11.32 am and they came after 12 pm,” said Sarbajit Roy, another resident. Raju, who irons clothes near the park, said he saw both the victims arriving in an e-rickshaw. “They were talking to each other and walked inside the park which was deserted. Nearly 20 minutes later, I heard gunshots. The man had shot the woman, who was screaming and abusing him,” he said.
