Hurling charges of irregularities on each other, the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress on Wednesday disrupted the Standing Committee meeting of the MCD.

Hurling charges of irregularities on each other, the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress on Wednesday disrupted the Standing Committee meeting of the MCD.

While the Congress accused the MCD of irregularities in the mid-day meal scheme in its schools, the BJP said the government is attempting to “usurp” the power of the civic agency.

The BJP passed two resolutions, including one against Delhi government’s move to hand over maintenance of all streetlights across the city to private power distribution companies. According to the resolution, the decision was aimed at providing financial benefits to discoms and was a “hidden attempt” to make MCD “financially crippled”. The panel resolved that the 2007 policy on the issue be maintained and asked the MCD Commissioner to file a case in court of law,if any changes were made in the present policy.

The other resolution was against a DDA notification under which residents of rural, urbanised and ‘lal dora’ villages will now have to get their building plans sanctioned by civic authorities.
