Concessional Metro passes for students soon, says Delhi CM
Praises ABVP ahead of DUSU polls

The Delhi government will soon fulfill the long-pending demand of students for concessional passes for the Delhi Metro, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday.
“The metro passes have not been provided until now… this Delhi government will make that happen soon. We will definitely provide our students with the facility,” Gupta said as she addressed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP’s) annual programme ‘Swayamsiddha 2025’ at Delhi University’s Sports Complex.
With Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections round the corner, where RSS-backed ABVP, Congress-backed NSUI, and Left-backed student wings AISA and SFI are among the top contenders, Gupta, who served as the president of DUSU decades ago, reminisced about her college days.
Praising the ABVP for giving her a platform and shaping her career, the CM urged the young students to make their college life memorable by joining a “cause”. “Joining a cause means joining ABVP,” the CM said while addressing the students.
“I never thought about becoming a doctor or an engineer…My father was not ready for me to do a job and my mother wanted me to get married…But, as a student of the Daulat Ram College, I joined ABVP and was involved in a strike that lasted for about a month…During that protest, I got to know about DUSU and realised that through good activism, we can solve problems…,” she said.
She also said that ABVP gave her the very first platform of her life, inspiring her to work for society and the nation.
“Despite having no political background, a girl from a humble background became the CM of Delhi today,” she said. ABVP, she said, gave her opportunities for leadership, management, and service, just like a management course does.
Days after the University-Special bus service made a return at the DU at an event where the CM was seen riding a bus and having a surprise interaction with students, Gupta on Monday assured that the fleet of the U-Special buses will be increased. “I want the number of U-Special buses to increase. This CM will make it happen for you,” she asserted.
At the event, the CM also urged the girl students in particular to make their presence felt and make the nation proud.
Swayamsiddha is organised annually by the ABVP to honour the girl students for their achievements in different fields.
The event was also attended by ABVP’s National Girls’ In-Charge Manu Sharma Kataria, National Secretary Shivangi Kharwal, DUSU Vice-President Bhanu Pratap Singh, Secretary Mitravinda Karanwal, university professors, and others.
