Expressing concern over the incident, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, "This is a cause of concern for us also... as the bus is just four years old... We will investigate the incident to find out how and why the bus caught fire and how it can be prevented in future.”
A blue cluster bus of route no 340 with almost 40 passengers, going from Central Secretariat to Seemapuri, caught fire at Jagatpuri bus stand, police said.
At 9.48 am, the Jagatpuri police station received a PCR call about the cluster bus up in flames at the bus stand.
According to police, the surrounding area of the bus was cordoned off and three fire tenders also reached to douse the flames.
“The fire was put out at 10.20 am. All passengers were rescued and no injuries were reported,” a Delhi Fire Services official said. A short circuit in the air conditioning system might have caused the incident, police added.
