Check status of Noida plots sold at throwaway prices: Allahabad HC

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday appointed a court commissioner to ascertain the current situation of the Noida plots allegedly sold at cheap prices to members of the hotel industry by the then Noida Authority Chairman Rakesh Bahadur and CEO Sanjeev Saran.

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday appointed a court commissioner to ascertain the current situation of the Noida plots allegedly sold at cheap prices to members of the hotel industry by the then Noida Authority Chairman Rakesh Bahadur and CEO Sanjeev Saran. This had allegedly lead to loss of Rs 4,700 crore to the exchequer.

M D Singh Shekhar, counsel for the petitioner,Madhav Samaj Nirman Samiti, said: “The court has appointed an advocate as commissioner, who would visit the plots in Noida and report back with the current status. The two officials had allegedly given away plots, meant to be sold as commercial properties, under the industrial category to the hotel industry.”

Shekhar said the court had asked for the current status as a Supreme Court order passed in May 2011 had said that no action should be taken against plot holders if they were ready to pay the difference.

The petition had alleged that the plots were to be sold at Rs 74,000 per square metre, but the two officials allegedly sold them at Rs 7,400 per square metre.

The court fixed September 12 as the next date of hearing.

The two officials held the posts between 2005 and 2007. They were appointed again in May by the Uttar Pradesh government and have since continued in their posts. The state government had told the High Court on July 31 that their appointment would be re-considered only after the criminal and departmental inquiries against them were completed.

On June 29,the court had asked the state government to re-consider the appointment of the two officials in the wake of serious allegations against them. The court passed the order while hearing a petition challenging the appointment of Bahadur and Saran by the UP government.

During BSP’s regime,an FIR was registered against the two and they had been suspended. Their suspension was later revoked. The court had rejected the police’s report and the departmental inquiry against them had not been formally closed.
