Centre notifies appointment of judicial officer as additional judge of Delhi High Court

The Centre Monday announced the appointment of a judicial officer of the Delhi Higher Judiciary as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju made the announcement on Twitter. “In exercise of power conferred under the Constitution, Shri Dharmesh Sharma, Judicial Officer is appointed as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court. I extend my best wishes to him,” he wrote.
On April 12, a three-member collegium comprising Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice K M Joseph recommended the elevation of three judicial officers, out of which the appointment of Justice Girish Kathpalia and Justice Manoj Jain as additional judges of the Delhi High Court was notified by the Centre on April 27. Justices Kathpalia and Justice Jain were sworn in on May 1.
With respect to the elevation of Principal District and Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma, the collegium had stated that his name was considered based on the inputs given by the Intelligence Bureau, evaluated in conjunction with the opinion of consultee judges who have with their long years of experience in the Delhi High Court “observed the conduct and work performance of the officer”. The Judgement Evaluation Committee also graded the judicial officer’s judgements as outstanding.
Previously, Justice Kathpalia was presiding as the Principal District and Sessions Judge (HQ), Tis Hazari Court, and Justice Jain was presiding as Principal District and Sessions Judge, South West district (Dwarka Courts).
