The Delhi Police lodged a case against two head constables this week for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a man, whose brother was caught in a drug crackdown operation at North Delhi’s Kashmere Gate, and then abducting him.
The man was allegedly caught with around 60 tablets of Alprazolam drug.
“The head constables, Praveen Saini and Ravindra Dhaka, posted with the Narcotics Squad of the North district, are currently absconding and the case has been lodged under BNS section pertaining to assault and abduction,” an officer said.
According to a senior officer, the Narcotics teams consisting of both the head constables, on May 23, raided a premises in Kashmere Gate and “recovered a commercial quantity of Alprazolam drug tablets” and arrested the accused, Kaushalendra.
Police said that later, the head constables allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from Kaushalendra’s brother, Arun, in order for the former to get bail. Following which, Arun approached CBI and the apex investigative body formed a team to catch the accused, a police officer said.
On July 3, the two head constables called Arun outside the Narcotics Squad office. Since a CBI team was already stationed at the spot, the officers made Arun sit in their vehicle and drove around Police Colony Lines and took Rs 3 lakh as advance money, a senior police officer said. “They robbed him of his phone and on searching, found a recorder on him, which they threw out of the vehicle into a drain,” he said, adding that the officers pushed Arun off on a road at the Britannia Chowk before fleeing the spot.
Following Arun’s complaint of the incident to CBI officers, a case was lodged at the Roop Nagar Police Station in North Delhi.
