A passer-by who witnessed the incident made a PCR call. Police reached the spot and rushed the boy to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police could not find any proof of identity on his person. They questioned local residents and found that he was the son of a daily-wage labourer. A senior police officer said a case of negligent driving causing death has been registered.

Two other fatal road accidents were reported on Saturday. Police said a 44-year-old man, identified as Bijendra Gupta, a trader, died after his car rammed a divider. In the second incident, a 24-year-old man, Saroj Kumar, reportedly fell off his two-wheeler and was crushed by an oncoming vehicle in Shastri Nagar on Saturday.
