While the Delhi government is working to implement the new industrial policy and give a fillip to sectors like gemology,education and IT,a recent survey by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics reveals the real estate business remains far ahead of any other business enterprise in Delhi. Newsline takes look.

Number of unorganised service sector enterprises in the Capital —2,39,447 Of these,only 10.9% are in rural areas.

62% of these enterprises — 1,47,281 — are run without any hired labour and supported entirely by households. The remaining 38% establishments employ merely one worker.

The service sector employs 6.44 lakh persons in the Capital. Only 15.58% of this are women.

About 10.09% of these enterprises are owned and managed by women.

Business related to real estate,including renting,employ the maximum number people — over 1 lakh — in the Capital.

This is closely followed by restaurants,including anything from snack bars to canteens,which employs more than 89,000 people.

Social and personal services like gym,beauty parlours etc,come next,employing over 86,000 people

The education industry is also growing bigger,employing over 79,000 people at present. It includes anything from computer training institutes to coaching centres.
