The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved three proposals to improve healthcare in the national capital including the engagement of a Government of India company to better the procurement of medical equipment for Delhi hospitals.
The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a new 100-bed hospital in Sarita Vihar. This will provide comprehensive healthcare to residents of Sarita Vihar and neighbouring areas, particularly the poorest sections of the society. The hospital will be developed as per green building concepts and will provide round-the-clock emergency services, maternity services, surgical facilities and other specialty services for secondary healthcare, Sheila Dikshit said.
After chairing the Cabinet meeting,CM Sheila Dikshit said the government had always emphasised on the need to expand healthcare facilities across the national capital. The Cabinet has approved a proposal to employ HLL Lifecare Ltd,a Government of India enterprise, for procurement of medical equipment for hospitals and medical institutions run by the Delhi government, Dikshit said.
According to the Delhi government, equipment is procured through the Equipment Procurement Cell by floating tenders, while the award is decided by the Purchase Committee. Dikshit said the existing system created obstacles and needed to be replaced.
The present system is creating obstacles in procurement, installation and maintenance of medical equipment. We felt the need for a procurement agency with expertise and experience in purchasing medical equipment, Dikshit said. She added that the new arrangement would make the system of procurement more efficient, smoother and faster.
The Cabinet decided to effect a 15 per cent hike in the remuneration of contractual employees with the Delhi State Aids Control Society (DSACS). There are 513 contractual employees who have been working for at least three years. The government will release Rs 90 lakh annually to meet the increase in remuneration, Dikshit said.
