The police arrested two men for allegedly stabbing a cab driver to death in southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh area earlier this week.

The accused, identified as Mohit Mehlawat, 23, and Lucky alias Tannu, 23, were arrested two hours after the incident was reported.

According to the police, the incident came to light on the morning of October 27 when a PCR call was received regarding a body lying inside Machhli Park in Kishangarh. A police team reached the spot and found a man, later identified as Nitesh Khatri, 23, lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to his ear, abdomen, and other parts of the body. The caller, a local resident named Raunak Kumar Jha, told the police that he had discovered the body while on his daily morning walk.

The police said a mobile phone seized from the victim’s pocket helped identify him. “The device was unlocked using facial recognition, and the deceased was identified as Nitesh Khatri, a resident of Kishangarh and employed as a cab driver,” said Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West).

A case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was subsequently registered at Kishangarh police station.

The police team analysed CCTV footage, identified possible escape routes, and deployed local informers to develop leads. “Within a short span, the accused were traced and apprehended from their respective areas,” said DCP Goel.

During interrogation, the police said the duo allegedly confessed to killing Khatri due to an old rivalry. “They had a history of disputes with the victim and had planned revenge. They contacted him through Instagram, lured him to the park, and attacked him with knives,” DCP Goel added.
