The Braj Vikas Party candidate from Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a woman traffic constable. Police said the woman constable alleged that the candidate, Sanjay Gandhi, misbehaved with her, prevented her from doing her duty and tried to outrage her modesty by tearing her uniform. A case was registered in Northwest Delhi’s Model Town police station. According to police, the incident took place around 3 pm when vehicles were being checked by the traffic police in the area. Gandhi reportedly demanded that his vehicle be allowed to go past the police picket without being checked. “The constable alleged that when he was stopped, he started abusing the police personnel on duty and threatened to get them dismissed. When the woman constable intervened, he allegedly had a heated argument with her and then tried to outrage her modesty,” a senior police officer said. According to police, Gandhi allegedly walked up to her and misbehaved with her, even trying to tear her uniform. On the basis of the complaint of the woman constable, a case under sections 186 (obstructing a public servant from performing her duties), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from performing duty), 354 (molestation) and 354B (assault or criminal force with intent to disrobe) was registered at the Model Town police station.
