Businessman,wife killed at Rani Bagh home

“We have a scrap metal business. We recently opened a car accessory shop. Sanjeev manages the new shop,” Naveen said.

“Around 8.30 pm,the milkman rang the bell several times. As nobody answered,he called Sanjeev on his mobile phone. My brother rushed home and noticed that the house was completely dark. He forced open the main door and found our father unconscious on the floor near the sofa,” he said.

Sanjeev then ran outside and sought help from the neighbours. “We took Satpal to Agrasen Hospital in my car. Doctors told us that he died of strangulation. Then it struck Sanjeev that his mother was also missing,” neighbour Suresh Goyal said.

Sanjeev returned home with a few friends. They found that one of the rooms on the ground floor was locked,police said.

They broke the door open and found his mother lying unconscious on a bed. Her forehead reportedly had a huge wound and she was bleeding profusely. Her gold ornaments were missing,police were told.

“We could feel her pulse and rushed her to a nearby hospital. She was later shifted to Max Hospital but couldn’t be saved,” Goyal said.

Neighbours said they could not have heard the couple even if they had raised an alarm because of the noise of construction at the opposite building.

Ashish,a family friend,suspected that could be an “insider’s job”.

“When we went in,there were three-four tea cups in the kitchen. This suggests that somebody was there and the couple knew them.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) P Karunakaran said: “They were found in separate rooms. We have registered a case of robbery on basis of preliminary investigation.”
