Buoyed by Delhi win, BJP hits the ground running: ‘Will bring double-engine government’
“Our next target is to remove the corrupt AAP and Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi in the assembly polls... and ensure the BJP’s victory,” said Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva.

Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats firmly in its pocket for the third consecutive year, the BJP has set in motion its plan to win the state assembly polls slated for next year.
“Our next target is to remove the corrupt AAP and Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi in the assembly polls… and ensure the BJP’s victory,” said Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva Wednesday as he introduced the seven newly elected MPs during a press conference at the party headquarters.
Stating that the seven are not just not “MPs” but “party workers”, Sachdeva added: “They will start work on the ground, raise issues that people of Delhi are facing like water crisis, poor roads, garbage, pollution, traffic congestion, and make the AAP put a stop to the blame game… They will raise matters of Delhi in the Lok Sabha and start working to fulfill the promises they made.”
He also appealed to the people to bring a double-engine government in Delhi by electing BJP.
Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their victories, the MPs too asserted they would begin working right away.
Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari attacked his opponent, Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar, and said, “Kuch log aaye the desh ke tukde tukde karne wale par humare Dilli ki janta ne unki cheethde cheethde uda kar wapas bhej diya (some people came to tear the country into pieces but the people of Delhi tore them apart and sent them packing).”
Asked if he thinks he will get a Cabinet portfolio, Tiwari said: “… Those who work can remain workers, they don’t need to be cabinet ministers. We are starting work (on the Assembly election) from today… The assembly polls will be fought on the issues of water supply, roads, sewer lines…”
Explaining the plan, Tiwari said the BJP is working on a scheme to provide 300 units of free electricity, free bus travel for women in AC buses, and water.
Northwest Delhi MP Yogendra Chandoliya, who won with the highest margin of 2.90 lakh votes and a 58.26% vote share, said, “I don’t know if others will say it or not, earlier we would win just in the name of Modi ji. But this time, I worked for 73 days. People complained that there was no ration, no water, no pensions. They did not know that the Delhi government was responsible for this… We will unmask these parties.”
East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra, West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj also have a blueprint of work to be carried out in the next 100 days.
Former Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely, who joined the BJP last month, was also at the event. As per sources, Lovely will get a key role in the upcoming assembly polls.
Despite winning all seven seats in the Lok Sabha polls in 2014, 2019 and this year, the BJP has not managed to defeat AAP in the assembly polls. The party won three seats in the 2015 assembly polls, and 8 in 2020.
