A police officer said the premises had inadequate security arrangements and no CCTV cameras. “My grandson knew how to swim. He entered this pool and drowned. The children who were present there say no one (lifeguard) was there. Now they have deployed lifeguards. But no one helped my grandson when he was drowning…” said Laxman.

The family claimed that Taksh struggled for three to four minutes, against the management’s claims that he was in the water for only three to four seconds. “The doctor has said he didn’t have any health issues and couldn’t have died if he was not in the water for so long,” said Laxman.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said it is cooperating in the investigation.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in MCD, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Ankush Narang, said the death was a result of “gross negligence and administrative failure”.

“Despite charging hefty fees, MCD handed over the swimming pool to a private concessionaire without ensuring even the basic safety parameters…” he said.
