Roughly 72 hours after a 26-year-old man went missing, Ghaziabad Police found his body — from deep inside a 12-foot drain, with a cotton bed sheet wrapped around his neck.

His family, on the other hand, kept running from pillar to post with his SOS messages sent from his phone, asking for help.

Rahul Saxena, who ran a two-wheeler showroom in Budh Vihar, had gone missing on Tuesday night.

He had left in his Etios car to meet two ‘property dealers’ who owed him money, police said.

The first sign of Saxena fearing for his life was when he sent two messages to his employees, casting doubts over the exchange of money, police said.

A third message — an SOS — was sent to the employees, following which his phone was switched off.

DCP (outer) M N Tiwari said, “Rahul had gone missing on Tuesday evening and police had registered a case under Section 364 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person). The FIR was later converted to kidnapping for ransom the next day. The body was recovered on November 10 from Kavi Nagar, Ghaziabad”.

Police said they have identified two suspects and have formed teams to track them down.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, the family named two property dealers behind Saxena’s murder, and claimed that the murder was the result of a financial dispute.

Saxena, a resident of Budh Vihar, lived with his mother, two sisters and a younger brother.

According to Himani, his sister, Saxena had undertaken some electrical work for the two property dealers days before Diwali, and the cost had run up to around Rs 1 lakh.

“He kept asking them for his money, but they kept stalling, and would pay Rs 10, 000 every two months. On Tuesday, when my brother was returning from his office, they called him to Rohini Sector 22, promising to pay,” she claimed.

Saxena gave his family’s contact to one of his employees, Sandeep, and asked him to alert his family if he did not make it back by 8 pm.

After Saxena reportedly met the suspects, they persuaded him to accompany them to Rohini Sector 32, police said. Following this, he sent a message to Sandeep claiming that he was with the two property dealers, and suspected that something was amiss.

Ghaziabad police, meanwhile, said that Saxena died due to asphyxiation.
