Days after Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal alleged, in a call to the Police Control Room, that she was assaulted by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar, BJP leaders tried to corner the Aam Aadmi Party over the issue, holding a protest near the CM House in Civil Lines and also raising slogans at a roadshow Kejriwal held in Chandni Chowk and North West Delhi.

AAP’s Sanjay Singh, who Tuesday said that the CM had directed strict action against Kumar for misbehaving with Maliwal, met her on Wednesday.

Both Maliwal and Singh could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

According to sources, it was Singh who first called Maliwal on Monday after news of her being allegedly assaulted first came out, and is believed to have spoken to her regarding action against Kumar. Maliwal has not filed a formal complaint with the police about the incident yet.

At a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, who was previously with AAP, expressed concern over Maliwal’s safety and wondered if she was being intimidated. “It is indeed very serious. Kejriwal should come clean on this, offer his resignation if he cannot ask Bibhav to resign,” she said.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also questioned Kejriwal’s “silence” over the alleged incident and demanded action against those guilty. “It is a matter of respect and honour of a woman who has been chief of the Delhi Commission for Women. We are here to support her. AAP leader Sanjay Singh has admitted to the incident. Why is Kejriwal not lodging a police complaint against the person who is involved in it,” Sachdeva asked.
