Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Lok Sabha in-charge Raghav Chadha Sunday said the BJP had repaid the votes and trust of the north Indian community by “forcing them to flee their homes”, and with “violence”. He was speaking at the ‘Uttar Bharatiya Swaabhimaan Yatra’ organised by the party.

The rally was led by Chadha and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, along with nine other MLAs. It started at the office of the Badarpur AAP MLA and concluded at Chattarpur Vidhan Sabha. Chadha said there were “shocking and shameful incidents of violence and inflammatory hate speech against north Indians in BJP-ruled states of Gujarat and Maharashtra”, and that “disparaging remarks and inflammatory speeches” were being made against north Indians in various parts of the country.

He said, “It is tragic that people have come out on the streets to demand that their rights, their self-respect be recognised by their own government. Are these PM Modi’s promised ‘acche din’? The BJP has repaid the north Indian community’s trust, votes and faith with violence, hate speech and by forcing them to flee their homes.”
