BJP calls for bandh today to protest DTC fare hike, price rise

Delhiites may be in for a tough time on Friday following the Bharatiya Janata Party calling for a bandh to protest against the recently implemented hike in bus fares and the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

Delhiites may be in for a tough time on Friday following the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) calling for a bandh to protest against the recently implemented hike in bus fares and the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

The party on Thursday appealed to all sections of the society, including traders, industrialists, workers and students to support the strike to protest the Delhi government’s “anti-people policies”. One section of the BJP,headed by general secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Praveen Khandelwal, will take out a two-hour half-naked protest march from Red Fort to Chandni Chowk. The BJP has, meanwhile, assured that traffic movement will not be disrupted. Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra said the Sheila Dikshit-led government is “least bothered about the plight of the common people”. “Bus fares have surged to such an extent that people do not prefer travelling in buses at all. All this has been done to benefit Blueline buses, while the government claims to take off these buses from the roads,” Malhotra said.
