Alternate road routes, walkability, Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plans for Delhi Metro stations – these were among initiatives aimed at easing the traffic situation and improving mobility, transport and transit services approved at the governing body meeting of the Unified Traffic & Transportation Infrastructure Planning & Engineering Centre (UTTIPEC) Monday.
Chaired by L-G VK Saxena, the meeting, where the logo and tagline of UTTIPEC were also approved, saw him stress upon comprehensive prospective planning, importance of strictly sticking to timelines and seamless inter-agency coordination.
Raj Niwas stated that several road construction and widening proposals that sought to curtail traffic jams, improve traffic flow, facilitate pedestrianisation and cycling in addition to improving overall mobility were discussed and approved.
These include widening and upgrading the road from Chhatarpur Metro station on MG Road to Gwalpahari on Faridabad-Gurgaon Road on the Haryana border. To be funded by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the project will be executed by the Public Works Department.
In addition, a walkability plan of the area surrounding Mandi House and Mandi House Metro station, comprising radials such as Barakhamba Road, Tansen Marg, Safdar Hashmi Marg, Sikandra Road, Bhagwan Das Road, Copernicus Marg and Ferozshah Road, was also approved.
The project focuses on easing pedestrian and traffic circulation around the National School of Drama, Modern School, Lady Irwin College, Mandi House, Lalit Kala Academy, the Embassy of Nepal and serving areas like Bengali Market, Hamdard Nagar and Todarmal Road.
MMI plans of Shadipur, Peeragarhi and Mayur Vihar Extension Metro stations, incorporating interconnected street network, street design, signalised and grade separated street crossings and parking were also approved.
