The call for a nationwide shutdown by the opposition parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, against the fuel price hike has left parents wondering whether the citys schools would remain open or fall in line with the call for strike. While government school teachers said they havent received any notification from the Directorate of Education regarding the protest, many private schools, including Delhi Public Schools in RK Puram and Vasant Kunj, and Shri Ram School have announced that they would remain closed. Noting that all government schools will remain open,a teacher said since they largely cater to neighborhood children, getting to school should not be an issue as most of the students walk to school. The websites of many schools did not carry any information about the bandh till late on Sunday, forcing parents to call up the school or teachers to confirm whether they should send their children to school on Monday. Sanskriti School officials said their school buses will run on Monday and hence commuting should not be an issue. In the absence of any consensus among private schools regarding the bandh, schools have largely decided on their own about holding classes on Monday. Some teachers were worried about their transport. A government school teacher said reaching the school that was 25 km away from her residence will not be an issue in the morning but returning could be a problem around 12.40 pm,as it would be the peak hour of the strike. She said she was also concerned about driving in her car as protesters could pelt it with stones or stop her on the way. At Tagore International School, harried students and parents called up teachers to find out the status. A Class XII student said their exams scheduled for Monday have been postponed and the school will remain closed. Springdales School,Pusa Road, will remain closed except for Classes XI and XII. L V Sehgal, principal of Bal Bharti School Gangaram, said they will remain open on Monday.
