Two days after the Delhi government said it has sought a CAG audit of Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), its Managing Director S N Sahai said though their work should be audited, the company objected to any audit of its internal accounts. Sahai added that the company already has a CAG-empanelled auditor.
“We are not a government company. We are given projects on nomination basis. DIMTS was formed by the government to do specific works by nomination,” he said.
The MD also clarified that although conceptualised as a government company, as per the 2006 Cabinet note on the formation of DIMTS, it was stated that 50 per cent of the shares would be divested to a private partner, who is a leading light in the transport sector.
DIMTS, an equal equity joint venture of the Delhi government and Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC), has handled various projects, including construction of ISBT, Kashmere Gate, bus depots, maintenance of the BRT corridor, operation of cluster services, etc.
Sahai said sometimes the government gives money to DIMTS when the company makes payments on behalf of the government. “They must audit that. We are expending money on the maintenance of the BRT, they are free to audit it,” he said.
