Delhi Chief Minister designate Atishi will move into the Flagstaff Road home in Civil Lines, currently occupied by Arvind Kejriwal, soon after it is vacated, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources said Tuesday.

The official residence of the CM, renovated in 2020-21, has been at the centre of controversy following BJP’s allegations of “excessive expenditure” and violation of norms.

AAP has maintained that the house was not meant for just Kejriwal but for every subsequent Chief Minister.

“It is important to now underline this point. Whoever will be the Chief Minister will be residing in that house. Not only this, now that Atishi will be occupying the post, she will be granted Z security. These are practical concerns that have to be kept in mind. At the official residence, at present, there is an existing set-up for security staff,” a party leader said.

Kejriwal, meanwhile, is expected to move out within the next two weeks.

The party is yet to take a call on whether it will apply for official accommodation for him, which he is entitled to by virtue of leading a national party.
