Senior BJP leader Subhash Arya was on Friday elected chairperson of the standing committee of the South Municipal Corporation. Councillor for 17 years, Arya was elected unopposed. Three BJP MPs — Maheish Girri, Parvesh Verma, and Ramesh Bidhuri — were also in attendance as Arya took over responsibilities of the standing committee, after Satish Upadhyay quit the post last month following his appointment as Delhi BJP chief. Speaking on parking problems, Arya said, “The city has limited parking space and we can’t create parking sites everywhere. We will try to expand and modernise existing lots.” Arya said a call centre would be set up shortly for grievance redressal and information dissemination. “Tenders have been floated and we should be able to start work by December,” he said.
