Protesting against aide’s arrest, Arvind Kejriwal says Modi has launched ‘Operation Jhaadu’ to crush AAP

AAP MP Swati Maliwal, on whose assault complaint Kejriwal's PA Bibhav Kumar was arrested, says ‘maybe this bad thing wouldn’t have happened to me’ if Manish Sisodia were not in jail.

AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday accused the BJP and Narendra Modi of launching “Operation Jhaadu” to arrest AAP leaders, seize their bank accounts and evict the party from its headquarters.

“Senior leaders are here. I will first tell you why we have assembled here today. PM Narendra Modi has decided to crush the AAP and its leaders… He has started Operation Jhaadu (broom)…How do I know this? There are several people who meet PM Modi and some of them also know us… They say Modiji wants to crush us because AAP people are growing fast,” Kejriwal said at a protest march held to the BJP headquarters against the arrest of his personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, in connection with the physical assault complaint filed by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.

Senior leaders such as Sanjay Singh, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain, Sandeep Pathak and Durgesh Pathak and party workers took part in the protest. Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who returned from London a few days ago after an eye operation, was also present at the march.

Kejriwal said the AAP was going to give a tough challenge to the BJP at both the national and state levels. “That is why Modiji wants to crush us, so that we don’t grow. He is saying that these people are growing very fast, their work is being discussed across the nation… These are the words of the PM,” he said.

“The ED’s defence lawyers have already given statements that they will seize the AAP’s accounts after the polls. I am saying all this on my own. They said that if they seize our accounts now, we will get sympathy… So they have made three plans under this operation—arrest AAP leaders, seize accounts and evict us from office…hume sadak par layenge,” said Kejriwal. “They think they will destroy the AAP by doing all this. I want to tell them that the AAP is not a party of some people… AAP 149 crore logon ki sapno ki party hai… People have not seen development like we did in Delhi and Punjab ever in the last 75 years.”

Pointing out that the AAP had constructed good government schools, hospitals and provided free electricity, “Modiji and his government are unable to do this. So he is asking to crush the party…but don’t worry. Like how we made electricity free, we are going to give Rs 1,000 to women every month very soon…Ye baat pure desh bhar main fel rahi hai.”

“The AAP is a thought…you will arrest its leaders but how will you arrest the thought? Gita main bhi likha hai, aap isko jala nahi sakte, kaat nahi sakte, badal nahi sakte hai…this is spreading across the nation, you can’t destroy it…” Kejriwal said. “I want to tell PM, if you arrest one Kejriwal, 100 new Kejriwal will be born.”

‘They say Kejriwal is a very corrupt man’

Kejriwal alleged that the BJP had filed fake cases against AAP leaders over the years and that it had now come up with the new “liquor scam”. “They say Kejriwal is a very corrupt man. They said Rs 100 crore scam, Rs 1,000 crore scam. Where is the money? They did not even find a single penny. The PM in Punjab said that Kejriwal is a member of Khalistan, he wants to create Khalistan and become PM there… Itni vaahiyaat, bewkoofon wali baat aap PM ke muh se sunte hai…daya aati hai ki humare desh ke kaise pradhan mantri hai,” he said.

Kejriwal said the BJP would raise more such allegations against the AAP. “These people can stoop to any level. So you all stay alert in the days to come. The AAP and its leaders have passed through fire. We are those people who, if they find any party member involved in corruption, expel them from the party ourselves. We have expelled a minister in Delhi and a leader in Punjab and sent him to jail,” he added.

Kejriwal said the BJP had been targeting AAP leaders for the last two years and arrested him, Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain. “Yesterday, they arrested my PA. They are also saying they will arrest Raghav…Now, Raghav Chadha has arrived from London a few days ago and they want to arrest him, Atishi, Saurabh and Kailash Gahlot…,” he said.

Before leading the protest march towards the BJP headquarters, Kejriwal said, “I want to tell PM, Sir, why worry? Hum sare aajate hain, hum sab ko giraftar karlo…Lets see if Modiji will arrest us or not, destroy AAP or not…hum bhi dekhenge.”

‘Bajrangbali is with us’

Kejriwal urged his party works to not get scared and be ready for more challenges. “I was in jail for 51 days, I read the Ramayan and the (Bhagvad) Gita twice… God is with us…Bajrangbali is with us. We have to stand together. These times will also pass…” he said.

Further he said that Punjab CM and leaders also wanted to come to join the protest but that he had asked them not to come. “I told them, if we get arrested, then you come to protest,” he said.

Around at 1 pm, all the AAP leaders moved towards the BJP head office but were stopped by police. The protesters then sat on the ground near the DDU Marg red light and raised slogans such as “tanashahi nahi chalegi, Modi”, “Modi-Shah murdabad” and “Kejriwal zindabad”.

After 30 minutes, the protesters dispersed as Kejriwal had directed them to hold a peaceful protest for 30 minutes.

Swati Maliwal’s X post

Meanwhile, Swati Maliwal, who was also the chief of the Delhi Commission for Women, posted on X, “There was a time when we all came out on the streets to get justice for Nirbhaya. Today, after 12 years, we are out on the streets to save the accused who made the CCTV footage disappear and formatted the phone?… I wish I had used this much force for Manish Sisodia ji. If he had been here, maybe this bad thing wouldn’t have happened to me!”
