Arvind Kejriwal thanks Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi for support against Delhi services bill

(File) A day after the Delhi services bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal pn Tuesday wrote a letter to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi thanking them for their support on the issue. “We look forward to your continued support in the fight against forces that are undermining the Constitution,” Kejriwal said.
The Rajya Sabha had on Tuesday cleared the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill with 131 MPs voting in its favour and 102 opposing it. It had already been passed by the Lok Sabha. It will now translate into law an ordinance that makes it possible for the elected chief minister to be overruled by Centre-appointed bureaucrats.
“I write to you expressing gratitude on behalf of the 2 crore people of Delhi for your party’s support in rejecting and voting against the GNCTD (Amendment) Bill, 2023,” Kejriwal said in his letter.
Kejriwal also said that he would like to place on record his heartfelt appreciation for the Congress for championing the rights of the people of Delhi inside as well as outside the Parliament.
“I am certain that your unflinching loyalty towards the principles of our Constitution will be remembered for decades,” the letter reads.
