Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal speaks to media, in New Delhi, Saturday, April 1, 2023. (PTI Photo) The BJP Saturday broke its silence over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the latter’s educational qualifications, saying the AAP chief had “gone insane”.
This comes a day after the Gujarat High Court set aside a 2016 order of the Central Information Commission asking Gujarat University to provide information on Modi’s degree to Kejriwal.
Soon after Kejriwal addressed a press conference and called the HC decision “shocking”, the BJP fielded its national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi to take him on.
“The BJP is feeling both pained and anguished at the fact that the political opposition is crossing all limits by insulting and criticising both democracy and the judicial system of the country. The limits to which the Aam Aadmi Party, whose corruption has been completely established, has sunk, is not only painful but angering,” Trivedi said.
“The issue is not of the Prime Minister’s degrees, which are in the public domain. They wanted to veil the issue of their corruption (in the Delhi excise policy matter) in this new farce… The same policy which gave free-ki-revdi to drunkards through its one-plus-one scheme on alcohol. People lose their minds when they drink too much; it appears something like this has happened to Arvind Kejriwal… he has gone insane,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal said at a press conference: “If the PM has indeed studied from Gujarat University and Delhi University, then these institutions should be so proud that the PM of India has studied in their institution, and they should reveal this information to the public. But instead of celebrating this fact, these universities are being made to hide the details about the degree.”
“The Gujarat High Court order has further intensified the mystery around the educational qualification of PM Modi… citizens are unsure of how educated the PM of this country is,” he said.
Calling the debate around the PM’s degrees a farce, Trivedi said this was meant to divert attention from allegations of corruption against AAP leaders.
“It is now emerging that not only Manish Sisodia, but other AAP leaders too were involved in the corruption around the implementation of its excise policy,” he alleged. “Those who used to call themselves kattar imandaar are now being proven as the most corrupt,” he said.
