Blueline catches fire
A Blueline bus caught fire near Paharganj in Central Delhi early on Wednesday morning. According to the police,all the 25 passengers were de-boarded and no one was injured. The bus caught fire due to CNG leakage. In another incident,a Maruti van caught fire on Mathura Road near Pragati Maidan around 2.30 pm. The driver managed to safely come out of the car.
Shoe smacking: Three held
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police on Wednesday arrested three persons who allegedly smacked a rape accused five times with a shoe and let him go. Dharam Pal,Brahm Pal and Rajveer were arrested for smacking the rape accused with shoe,interfering with the process of law and preventing the victim for registering the case with the police,said Ghaziabad SSP Raghubir Lal. The three smacked the accused following the orders by a khap panchayat.
Four robbers arrested
NEW DELHI: Special Staff of East Delhi police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested four robbers who moved around in a stolen Maruti car and robbed people at knifepoint. The police identified the accused as Deepak Lal,19,Zinku,Sonu,20 (all residents of Kanti Nagar) and Lakhan Kumar,18,resident of Krishna Nagar. They told us that a day before Holi they stole the car from Krishna Nagar, DCP (East) K C Dwivedi said. Police claimed to have recovered nine mobile phones,two knives,one Maruti car and two bags containing two landline phones and several electronic goods from them.
No special sealing for towers
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi clarified that no special drive to immediately seal illegal cellphone towers was being undertaken by the civic body in the coming few days and the ongoing routine drive would continue as before. The issue was raised at the meeting of the MCD Standing Committee held here on Wednesday. The city has a total of 5,364 mobile towers out of which 2,952 are unauthorised. The MCD has so far issued show-cause notices on 1,532 towers to telecom companies besides sealing 226.
Powercuts return in Capital
New Delhi: With maximum temperature rising to 35 degrees Celsius,power crisis has returned to the Capital. On Wednesday,when power generation in the Capital stood at a paltry 795 MW,many areas were subjected to load-shedding even as Delhi was forced to over draw up to 200 MW from the Northern Grid. The situation was worsened by the fact that a 490 MW unit at the Dadri power plant,which supplies power to the Capital,tripped and had to be shut down. A similar incident occurred at Badarpur power plant where a 210 MW unit was shut down.
Supply water: govt,DJB told
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the state government and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) not to pass the buck to each other and provide basic amenities to residents of Sainik Farm. The courts directive came after ex-servicemen,who have been staying in Sainik Farm,alleged that the DJB has failed to supply water to them for the past several years. The court sought a detailed affidavit by next Tuesday and said government officials must verify genuineness of claims before declaring anyone as unauthorised resident of the area.
