Ahead of Independence Day, BSES warns against using ‘metal-coated’ strings to fly kites

It said that “the tripping of a single 33/66 KV overhead line can disrupt power for over 10,000 residents” and further announced that BSES operations and maintenance teams are on “high alert”.

Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, the BSES Yamuna Power Limited issued an advisory warning people not to use metal-coated manjhas (threads) for flying kites.

“Kite flying can quickly turn dangerous, even fatal, with the use of metal-coated manjha, a potent conductor of electricity. This dangerous material not only poses a serious threat to kite flyers but also risks widespread power disruptions,” the advisory said.
