With six days left for the ninth P20 Summit (Parliamentary speakers summit), Delhi L-G VK Saxena on Friday reviewed the preparedness at “Yashobhoomi”, the India International Convention Centre (IICC), and its surroundings at Dwarka.

The summit will see a meeting of G20 Parliamentary Speakers or Presiding Officers and a congregation of Parliamentarians from across the world; speakers from more than 30 countries have already confirmed their participation.

The theme of the summit is “Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future”, which draws inspiration from the ancient Indian philosophy ‘of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, L-G House officials said.

On Thursday, Saxena held a meeting of all officials concerned at Raj Niwas to chalk the way ahead for the summit.

L-G House officials said Saxena inspected the state-of-the-art Exhibition and Convention complex, which showcases the diverse and rich art and culture of India. However, a lot is needed to be done outside the complex, they added.
“The L-G asked the project developer, Larsen & Toubro, Delhi Development Authority, MCD and PWD to coordinate and develop the surrounding of the IICC on the lines of Bharat Mandapam at ITPO, which was the venue of the recently concluded G-20 Summit,” officials said.

He also discussed with Delhi police traffic arrangements for the movement of the delegates, and issued instructions for seamless traffic movement. Officials said the L-G issued specific instructions for the removal of debris and C&D waste, barricades, crash barriers and illegal hoardings falling on the route to be taken by the delegates.

In addition to policing arrangements, Saxena also asked for installation of proper branding signages and flag poles around the venue, and instructed that defunct street lights be fixed at the earliest.
