A day after Ravi Kapoor, alleged killer of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, attempted to escape by throwing chilli powder at the escorting policemen,a city court ordered that he be produced in the court handcuffed and in fetters.

Taking strong note of his escape bid,Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria accepted the plea of the policemen, who contended that the specific nod from the court was imperative to avert any such incidents in future.

Kapoor, who was arrested on March 24 this year in connection with the murders of Vishwanathan and IT executive Jigeesha Ghosh, had tried to flee from custody by throwing chilli powder at the policemen during his visit to Safdarjung Hospital for a check-up.

Meanwhile, the police filed a supplementary chargesheet under MCOCA against Kapoor, claiming he was involved in an organised car-jacking racket.

The ASJ,who was recently transferred the case from the magisterial court, also fixed the date to start hearing the arguments on charges against the five accused, including Kapoor,in the murder cases.

Arguments in the Vishwanathan case will begin on November 7 and the court will hear Ghosh’s case starting November 11.

Vishwanthan was allegedly shot dead by Kapoor on September 30 last year when she was returning home in her car from office. Ghosh was killed on March 18 while returning from a call centre.
