A day after the arrest of a 31-year-old Mohammed Khalid, who allegedly harassed nearly 1,500 women over the phone, Delhi Police have widened the probe and have sought information about similar cases from their counterparts in Mumbai and Kolkata.

After news of Khalid’s arrest surfaced, officials of Kolkata Police sent details of another case, where a woman had been harassed in a similar manner, along with a picture of the suspect. “There may be more victims in other cities… we have asked police teams from other states to give details of calls made from the local phone number of the accused,” said a senior police officer who is investigating the case.

He added, “We have received a message from Kolkata Police, along with a photo of the accused, who used the same modus operandi. The picture seems to be that of Khalid, but we have asked for more details to confirm that.”

Delhi Police have also been approached by their counterparts from Mumbai, who have sought more details about this particular case, said the officer.

“Mumbai Police have asked for details so that they can share the information with their complainants to figure out whether a similar plan was used to harass women,” added the officer.

Khalid, who ran a shop in Sadar Bazaar, had allegedly sent obscene and abusive messages as well as video clips to over 1,500 women in Delhi and the National Capital Region.

Meanwhile, police are still trying to ascertain the number of women who were allegedly harassed by Khalid. “We have got Khalid’s call details since April… but he started harassing women since August last year. As of now, we have ascertained that he has harassed nearly 1,500 women but the number of victims may be much more. We will get to know once we get his call detail records from August last year to March this year,” said Singh.
