Senior citizens, 23-year-old woman, teenager: 4 killed in three accidents in Delhi

In the first case, a 64-year-old woman and 75-year-old man died in a hit-and-run near the Uttam Nagar terminal early Sunday morning, police said.

Four people were killed in three separate accidents in the Capital over the weekend.

In the first case, a 64-year-old woman and 75-year-old man died in a hit-and-run near the Uttam Nagar terminal early Sunday morning, police said.

DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said: “A 19-year-old first-year BBA student, Krish, was arrested and his father apprehended in the case under sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS. The offending vehicle has been seized.” The accused is a resident of Tilak Nagar.

Police were alerted around 6.03 am. On reaching the spot, they learned that the victims had been rushed to nearby hospitals. “One of them, Kamlesh, a resident of Gupta Enclave in Vikas Vihar, had been taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The man, Narayan Sharma, a resident of Shiv Vihar, was admitted to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital where he later died,” police said.

An eyewitness, Rajo Devi (55), told police that she, Kamlesh and Sharma were crossing the road in front of Uttam Nagar terminal when a vehicle coming from the Janakpuri side, driven in a reckless and negligent manner, hit them before speeding away.

In the second incident, a 23-year-old woman, her husband, and their 21-day-old infant were en route to Safdarjung Hospital when the autorickshaw they were travelling in overturned on the Mehrauli Badarpur Road near the BSF Camp, Tigri, around 2 am. DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said information regarding the accident was first received from Batra Hospital, where the woman was taken.

Upon investigation, police said the autorickshaw was being driven recklessly and the driver lost control near the BSF Camp. The auto overturned, causing severe injuries to the woman. Her husband rushed her to Batra Hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

In his statement to the police, the husband, a resident of Sangam Vihar, alleged the auto driver fled the scene with the vehicle after the accident. He was unable to recall the vehicle’s number, police said.

The woman’s body has been moved to the AIIMS mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The DCP said an FIR has been registered, and a search is on to apprehend the auto driver.

In the third incident, 18-year-old Samir died in a collision between two trucks on the Rajokri Flyover on NH-48 Saturday night.

DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary Sunday said the accident took place when another truck moving at a high speed ahead of the victim’s vehicle suddenly braked, leading to the collision. Samir was a helper on the truck.

The Civil Hospital in Gurgaon Sector 10 informed the Vasant Kunj South Police Station of the victim being brought there; he was declared dead on arrival, police said.

DCP Choudhary said the driver of the offending vehicle, Imran Khan, was arrested Sunday under Section 125(a) of the BNS.

The victim’s body was handed over to his family members after a post-mortem at Safdarjung Hospital, the officer said. He said Samir, a resident of UP’s Firozabad, was the sole earner of his family as his father had passed away when he was a child. He is survived by his mother and two married sisters.
