Making the capital a tourism destination on the world map is high on the agenda of the AAP government. And this time, the directions have come from none other than Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself. While Delhi is known for its ancient forts and archaeological sites, it is yet to be developed as a tourist destination. Jitendra Singh Tomar, Minister for Home, Law and Tourism, said the project to make Delhi a world tourist destination has begun. The minister said once the plan is implemented, the people of Delhi will no longer need to go out of the city for outings. [related-post] The AAP government has started a study on foreign tourist destinations in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. Tomar said it is an ambitious project for which help from several Delhi departments will be taken. “We feel that Delhi does not have a decent place for outings. Despite being the capital of the country, it is yet to be known as a tourist destination. People from Delhi always go out for vacations. We would love to develop the city on the lines of foreign cities,” the minister said. The government will soon begin to scout land for the project. “We need a big chunk of land. We may develop an artificial lake and can have water sports. Delhi lacks outdoor games venues. We will develop them in due course. We will change how the world looks at Delhi,” the minister said. Tomar who is also holding charge of the Law department said a review meeting has been called on pending cases. The department’s priority is to fast track court proceedings and increase the number of courts. “We are looking for buildings that can double up as courts till we get land for the new courts complex,” Tomar said.
