AAP MLA, driver injured in attack by 4 men in south Delhi

The incident took place in the morning when the Chhatarpur MLA was travelling with an associate in his SUV, said police.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar was attacked by four unidentified men in South Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri area Sunday. The MLA and his driver sustained minor injuries, said police.

The incident took place in the morning when the Chhatarpur MLA was travelling with an associate in his SUV, said police. Four persons stopped their car in Fatehpur Beri and hit the windshield with an iron rod.

Police said the assailants later got into a scuffle with the driver.

A PCR call was made, following which the injured men were taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

A senior police officer said, “Unidentified men attacked the MLA’s car with iron rods. The driver and the MLA were injured in the attack. Both were taken to AIIMS for treatment and discharged after first aid.”

A case has been registered at Fatehpur Beri police station.

Police said they are scanning CCTV footage from the area to nab the attackers. Police have also questioned a few witnesses.

Senior party leader Ashutosh tweeted, “Murderous attack on AAP MLA, Kartar Singh Tanwar. Chhatarpur. Driver is injured.

Attackers were carrying pistol. Kartar is safe.”
