Blaming the AAP Delhi government for “allowing the condition of the Yamuna to deteriorate” over the years, the Delhi BJP on Wednesday accused it of hurting the sentiments of the capital's Purvanchali community by neglecting the river which was now unfit for the upcoming Chhath Puja festival. Claiming credit for initiating observance of the festival on the banks of the river in the city after the formation of the BJP government in Delhi in 1993 under Madan Lal Khurana, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva alleged that the current condition of the river was far cry from being the hub of Chhath festivities. “Since the formation of the government of late Shri Madan Lal Khurana, Chhath Puja started being celebrated with great pomp in the city but the Arvind Kejriwal government has been playing with Purvanchali sentiments,” Sachdeva alleged. “Today the condition of Yamuna is worse than before. Along with MP Manoj Tiwari, I inspected Kalindi Kunj ghat and saw chemical foam floating in it.the Kejriwal government does not clean the ghats.” he alleged. Northeast Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, “Today, instead of Ganga water and cow's milk, chemicals and dirty drain water are being discharged into the Yamuna.”
