The political tussle in Delhi turned violent in Tuglaqabad on Saturday after members of the Aam Aadmi Party and BJP clashed. A car owned by AAP’s former MLA from Tuglaqabad, Sahi Ram, was also gutted, allegedly by BJP workers.

According to Ram, the incident took place following a TV news channel debate.

“The debate had Congress, BJP and AAP volunteers. It started around 3 pm and 15 minutes later, these workers started shouting slogans. The situation became worse after the BJP workers took iron rods and wooden sticks and beat up our volunteers. Around 8 AAP volunteers are in hospital,” Ram claimed. “After this, they set fire to my Scorpio car which was parked near the venue.”

BJP, on the other hand, claimed that at about 3 pm, AAP workers attacked BJP workers who were returning from the TV programme and that four of their injured workers had to be admitted to Batra hospital.

“AAP workers themselves burnt a car and around 4.30 pm made a PCR call, alleging that the car had been set on fire by BJP workers.” said BJP media convenor Praveen Shankar Kapoor.
