Upon reaching the hospital, officers found that one of the victims, identified as Komal Singh Chandel, had been brought dead with head and facial injuriesA 74-year-old man died and two others including the driver sustained injuries after the e-rickshaw they were travelling in overturned in Northeast Delhi’s Farsh Bazar area on Friday, police said.
According to the police, the case came to light on Friday after officers received information from Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Hospital, Shahdara about persons being injured in an accident. Upon reaching the hospital, officers found that one of the victims, identified as Komal Singh Chandel, had been brought dead with head and facial injuries.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Chandel had been travelling in the e-rickshaw when it overturned, officers said. “The driver, identified as Naj Mohammad allegedly swung the e-rickshaw sideways to avoid a collision with a scooter, causing it to turn,” said DCP Shahdara, Prashant Gautam.
A woman passenger, Pushpa (26) suffered minor injuries on her right foot, while the driver sustained injuries to his hand, officers said. The driver has been detained, and the e-rickshaw has been seized for inspection, added police.
Police said a mobile crime team and forensic experts were called to the accident spot for inspection and documentation.
“An inquiry is underway to ascertain if any other persons were injured. A case of rash and negligent driving resulting in death is being registered,” said DCP Gautam.
