A seven-year-old girl died and her father and 10-year-old brother were injured after their scooter was hit by a car while they were going to school in Gurgaon on Thursday morning, police said.
According to police, around 8 am on Thursday, Gurmeet Singh was going to drop his children, Sehajpreet Kaur and Arshdeep Singh, at a school in Sector 22 when a car coming from the opposite side of the road allegedly hit their scooter. The girl suffered injuries on her head and died on the spot, and Gurmeet Singh was seriously injured, said police.
The driver of the car, a UP resident who works in a private company in Gurgaon, allegedly tried to flee from the site but was arrested, said police, adding that there were two more men in the car. The family lives in Sector 22 near Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha.
On the complaint filed by the deceased’s mother, the police registered an FIR under sections 279, 304A, and 427 IPC at Palam Vihar police station.
In the complaint, the woman alleged, “My husband was going towards the school via Sector 22 road when a car came at high speed and recklessly. My husband tried to save himself and the children, but the driver was on the wrong side and hit the Activa directly. The collision was so strong that my daughter suffered injuries on her head and died on the spot, and my husband was seriously injured. My son was also hurt in the accident as the Activa was badly damaged…”
One of the relatives of the victim said that Gurmeet Singh was in the ICU. “The girl died on the spot, and the boy is doing fine. Their mother is devastated after the incident,” he said.
