Six people died and eight were injured on Thursday evening when an autorickshaw collided with a pick-up van in Farrukhnagar, Gurgaon district.
The accident took place around 6.30 pm outside a cowshed at Sultanpur village. According to the police, the auto in which the family was travelling was overloaded and was heading towards Farrukhnagar from Gurgaon’s Sadar Bazaar. The driver of the pick-up van lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle and hit the auto, police said.
“The vehicles rammed into each other and lost control. The auto had 14 passengers. All victims were labourers hailing from Madhya Pradesh and were returning after shopping from Sadar Bazaar,” police said.
Six passengers, including two women and two children, died on the spot. Eight other passengers were injured and have been admitted to the hospital.

According to officials, acting on the instructions of the deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, the SDM of Pataudi rushed to the spot and those injured were rushed to a hospital in Farrukhnagar. Others were rushed to Gurgaon civil hospital but later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
The police impounded the vehicles and the driver of the van has been arrested. A case has been registered at the Farrukhnagar police station. “The impact of the incident was such that the auto tossed in the air and fell 50 metre away. Seven passengers are critical,” Farrukhnagar police station SHO Mukesh Kumar said.
