5 hurt as families of separated couple fight each other

Five persons were injured when the family members of a couple,who had married against their wishes,clashed with each other in Bharat Nagar area of Northwest district on Saturday night.

Five persons were injured when the family members of a couple,who had married against their wishes,clashed with each other in Bharat Nagar area of Northwest district on Saturday night.

The police,who have not been able to ascertain how the altercation started,have lodged a cases against both parties. “The families live in the same street and both allege that the other came to their house and beat them up,” a senior police officer said.

Umesh Shishodia and Jyoti had eloped and married on April 28. “The boy is a Rajput while the girl is a Jaatav. Moreover,they are from the same village,” the cops said. “They came back a few days after their marriage,but the families refused to accept their relationship. After a panchayat declared their marriage null and void,” the police said. The couple was separated and the girl sent to a relative’s house in Ghaziabad.

“But since then,the girl’s family has been alleging that Umesh still meets the girl despite being told not to,” the officer said.

Umesh’s father Surya Chand,his mother Yashoda and relatives Roshan and Shankutla suffered injuries in the clash,while one person from the girl’s family was also hurt.

Investigating officers said a case under sections 323,341 has been lodged against both parties. “The girl’s father Anil Kumar,his minor son and neighbour Deepak have been apprehended,” the investigating officer said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) N S Bundela said they where not clear how the violence started. “We are probing,” he added.
